Unlike many mountain towns, Pagosa Springs is not located at the baseof a canyon blocked from the sun by steep mountains. Instead, the Town of Pagosa Springs and the Pagosa Lakes area lie in the San Juan River Valley, a relatively open valley embraced by the San Juan Mountain Range and the Continental Divide. Sitting at an elevation of 7,000 feet, the town and the Pagosa Lakes area have panoramic views of the Continental Divide to the north and east.
