Dr. Mary Winter Fisher
Historical Profile
Doctor Mary Winter Fisher was the beloved physician who lived in and attended to the needs of the residents of Pagosa Springs from 1895-1928. Because of her stature in the history of Pagosa Springs, the first Dr. Mary Fisher clinic (1959) was located at the corner of San Juan Street and Hot Springs Blvd. In 1996 a new Dr. Mary Fisher Clinic was named in her honor on a site located just south of the intersection of South Pagosa Blvd, and Highway 160.
Cookie Adam’s oil painting (1976) showing a young Dr. Mary Fisher, riding in a horse powered sleigh, traveling across the Pagosa landscape to a waiting patient, hangs in the Pagosa Springs Mountain Heights Baptist Church.
