Treasure Mountain Trail - This hike is spectacular in the Fall with many aspen groves and trees. It starts out relatively easy for the first 3 miles, but then becomes increasingly difficult if you continue on after it intersects with Windy Pass Trail. To get to the trailhead, take Highway 160 east from downtown to East Fork Road, turn right. Drive seven miles to the trailhead. There is a small sign on the left side of the road marking the trail.

Opal Lake - For awesome aspen groves, beautiful meadows, and a milky green lake flanked by mountains, Opal Lake is an amazing hike. Although it is only about 3 miles roundtrip, it is a little more difficult in the beginning as it climbs 200 feet through switchbacks. The climb is worth it as the trail opens up into groves of large aspen trees, beaver dams, and eventually Opal Lake. To get there take Highway 84 south out of town approximately 8 miles to Blanco Basin Road (#657), turn left. Follow it 10 miles to a right across the Blanco River Bridge.  Follow Castle Creek Rd (#660) 2 miles to a parking area on the right.
